NOTES OF THE TURF. . Before shipment to Kentucky Sir John Johnson Jf- was insured for ifl.VXK. X. It. Davis has purchased the two-year-old filly May Shaw from O. A. ISianchi. U. .. Masters has turned the filly La Aurora over lo J. Mavberrv. She will be shipped to Vancouver at the conclusion of the Palmetto Dark meeting. Joseph E. Davis has registered his jumper. Sir fiiles. as a hunter, having qualified him for such registration. .Mr. Davis was at Washington yesterday looking over tho string that Matt Brady is training for him at the Denning track. Brady has written that all of the horses are doing excellently well, and that Fred Essen is developing Into a lirst- lass jumper. O Bear, probably -the best horse in the Davis string, is now in Maryland in the care of Robert Walden. This follow was not at his best any time lust year, because of a diseased foot. It has heen cured.
