; NOTES OF THE TURF. John W. Schorr is sojourniug for a time at Hot Springs, Ark. He is enthusiastic over the outlook for Xew York racing. Milton Henry, Mattio McGee, Frank OXeill, Johnny Rciff and Nash Turner are American jockeys 1 who have been licensed to ride in France this season. Willie Shaw and Micky Miles, American jockeys, sailed from Xew York Tuesday for Europe, where they are under contract to ride. Shaw will ride in Weinberg Bros. colors in Germany, and Miles will I wear the silks of St. Eydegi in Austria-Hungary. Shaw has been riding abroad with much success ! for five years, while Miles has been piloting horses in Europe for nine years. Of the horses engaged in the Roumanian racing of 1913, thirty-three of tho winners were bred in 1 France, and their winnings aggregated 0,000. " English-bred horses stood second with seventeen winners of 2,000, Roumanian-brcds followed with 1 forty-live winners of 5,000, then came the representatives of Austria-Hungary, with seventeen winners of ,000, and Belgium brought up the rear by furnishing three winners of ,000. Canon Chase of Brooklyn appeared before the Assembly Codes Committee at Albany a few days ago and told its members that six of the big New . York race tracks had advertised to open this year "because the legislature had failed to do its duty r last year."
