COLQUITT IS HANDICAP WINNER. J. W. Fullers Four-Year-Old Beats Cosgrove in Close Finish at Juarez. El Paso, Tex., .March P.. The Cerritos Handicap, live and a half furlongs, for three-year-olds ami over, had the place of honor on the program at Juarez this afternoon. Six sprinters of fair quality went to the post in this race and a stirring contest ensued. Cosgrove. a consistent member of the W. C. Clancy stable, carried top weight of 11. " pounds, and lost "to J. W. Fullers Colquitt by a neck after having wrested the lead from Orange Pdossom, the pacemaker, in the stretch. The latter ruled favorite for the race and lasted for third money. The allowance race for three-year-olds that preceded Ihe handicap likewise was looked upon with particular interest. Jefferson Livingstons Sosiiu, which had been placing with almost clocklike regularity in his recent starts, was installed favorite, hut his odds receded under the iulhience of strong support for J. W. Pullers Roy. When it came lo Ihe racing Sir Harry led all the way by- a good margin, with I Soy the runner-up and Auntie Curl third. Sosius was deficient iu speed and was never a menacing factor. The early pace of the race was extremely fast, the half being rim in 1G. the remainder of the card was devoted to the selling platers. The opening dash afforded that onetime crack. Waldo, the opportunity of winning his lirst purse of the season, lie had previously started oaly once since last fall and that was recently. Ik-was fairly weil backed today at long odds and sco.vd with ease. Waldo is now the property of P.. A. Jones-, of Parnell. Mo., and is destined to ixjr-manelitlv retire to the stud shortly. The second race resulted in victory for Sigurd, a well-supporte.l favorite. He outgamed Kvelina iu a strenuous linish. Acumen, one of the opening choices, came from far back to be second. The closing dash brought the return to form of Incle P.eu. from the Newman stable. The lavers had opened him lirst choice, but the talent rejected him in favor of Cisko. The latter finished second. The weather went to the two extremes within tweiitv-four hours. Yesterday was a perfect summer da v. but during the late hours of the night light snow fell and today was cold and blustering. Unlv the regulars visited the track.
