ACTIVITY AMONG THE AMATEURS. New York. March 20. Old Lad of Laugden. which raced so long in the colors of Richard E. AVatkins, has been purchased by Philip Stevenson, amateur rider, anil will doubt el ess be put to jumping at the various hunt meetings where Air. -Stevenson races his horses. Svossct has also been purchased liy Mr. Stevenson, and this pair, with ell wood. Plutocrat and the others that have heretofore raced for him , should make the stable a formidable one. James McLaughlin, Jr.. is training Mr. Stevensons horses at the Gravesend course, where he also has the fillv Miss Cavanagh. recently purchased from the estate of the late William Lakeland. She will I rice for Malcolm Stevenson, who also has several olhers in preparation for the coining season of S1 illeuteiiant Cuarles K. Rockwell, oue of the most : . 1 t successful of the army ollicers who race their horses, recently bought the hunter Free and Easy to add to his useful string. Lieutenant Rockwell now has a string of ten that are being trained at the Reini-ing track at Washington, 1. C. Free ami Easy is a son of Lighterman and Lady Golightly. Joseph E. Davis, with Mrs. Davis, has returned to New York after having visited at Aiken, S. O.. where there was several weeks of excelent hunting with the Hitchcock hounds. Mr. Davis lias a goodly string of horses at Benning in the care of Matt Brady, and they will be early in the field at the hunt club meetings. G. Malcolm Kline of Philadelphia has registered racing colors for the season and made application for a certificate to ride as an amateur. Air. Kline is a member of the White Marsh Valley Hunt. Lieut. R. G. Alexander, who is instructor at AVest Point, will race a good string in the military events at hunts meetings this season. Lieutenant Alexander raced and rede Metaphor, a brother to Mask-ette, with success.
