NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey V. Powers is beading the list of winning Steeplechase .jockeys in France this year. Fred Williams, another American rider, is close to the lop of the li-t. R. J. Mackenzie. Winnipeg millionaire, passed through Chicago yesterday en route from the east lo San Kaneisro. where he is making his headquarters for the present. He stopped off at Louisville on the way to look over the good si able of thoroughbreds that J. D. Adklns is training for him. His horses will begin their 1914 campaign on the Kentucky etrealt, Mr. Mackenzie states that some of the most prominent and iiillneut ial citizens of Winnipeg are interested in the recently launched pan to establish thoroughbred racing on a substantial basis in that thriving Canadian city. The raeing there will take place over a track of which he has had control.
