TWO RACING COMMISSIONERS RESIGN. Baltiaaore. Md., April 2::. — it now appears that the half-mile race track question in Baltimore Coiiulv will bare to be settled by Governor Golds-In. rough, as it is for him to appoint two members ; oi the Baltimore County Bacing Commission, which i . has control of the whole race track imfjstlun in this . I p..litieal division of the state. Last year the half i mile tracks did not all run owing to the ruling of the K icing Commission to the- effect that they i-oitld have betting only by the pari niutuel system Tin Baltimore County Racing Commission, which i was treated by the Legislature of 1012. was named I i:i the law establishing the lxxly and its members -. were Redmond C. Stewart. Frederick von Kapff and Spalding Lowe Jenkins, li was set out in the aw that the governor should appoint their sin • •essuls. The first thing that the commission did was to provide that no betting should be carried on at the Macks in Baltimore County except through the pal i-hiutuel system, which is in use in Frame and I In i tiis. i omit i j in Keatneky, where there is a state lacing commission, one object of the machine sys . inn is to do away with control of the race tracks by profeaaional gamblers. When tin- pari unit m I order was- adopted in Bel timore County the owners of the half mile tracks. of which there are these besides Tlmoninm, made a protest to the commission, but without avail. Ijist lull the Tlmoninm County fair racea wer.- run ui d. r tin pnri mutnel system, the machines having been loaned by the Iindico people. II was stated liefere the House Committee on Judiciary at An liapolis when the Hall ant i gambl ing bill was under • ■uisideriitioii l hat tin eoimty fair had lost a great deal of money and that a half-mile track could not L inn with profit with mutnel betting. In the Senate Mi Beuean introduced a bill permitting the half-mile tiarks to run with any system 1 of betting they might see tit to adopt without fern g«rd to the eiders ,,f the racing commission. It got through the senate with ease, but in the Mouse it struck a snag in the opposition of Will. am Iuriiell Hall of Baltimore city, who said lie would try to attach to it an amendment abolishing all 1 legalized gambling. This so scared the Baltimore County i**ople that thej had the bill recommitted I ;o their delegation, where they kept it and let it die. The two members of the commission who have resigned are Mr. Stew. ill and Mr. von Kap*T. What t ilie governor will do about filling the vacancies is not known. If he names men who will reopen the tnilf mile tracks, he will naturally get blame from i the anti race track people, the governor having in i his message to the Legislature recommended the passage of a bill to outlaw all race track gambling. —Baltimore News.
