Spring Board Returns to Winning Form and Accounts for the Arlington Handicap — Ral Parr Refuses to Set Price on The Masquerader. Baltimore. Md.. May 12.— Stirriug contests were the order at Pimlico this afternoou. Several finishes were so close the winners remained in doubt until the official placing was displayed. The Arlington Handicap, one of the feature races of the artel noon, brought out a held of thirteen, some of the best sprinters on the ground being among the number. Capt. K. I!. Cassatta Spring Board showed a return to his good form in this event, leading all the way. and in a gruelling drive lasted to beat Chuckles a nose. The pace was fast from the start, the fractional time of 22%.- 4«%, 1:12%, marking the fastest race of the meeting. In the opener. Alhena just did beat St. Helene. The two choices, Proctor and Razzano. ran poorly. Young Lewis Garth, who is programmed as the trainer of all the jumpers iu the Garth establishment this year, saddled another winner this after noon iu Ballyhay. which wou the Potomac Steeple-ciia-e The race furnished a spectacular conte-t all the way. August Belmonts Mission, which linished third, was beaten less than two length-. She fenced like a veteran this afternoon and it looks as if she will develop into one of the top-notchers through the held. The program has been issued for the first five days of racing at Klectric Iark. the half mile course that is to ofien its gates for a fen-day meeting beginning May 25. The book contains only Ave races each day and the sixth will be framed to suit the horses that are in attendance. In this manner it will be possible to better suit the horse men themselves. Already a number of stables have Indicated an intention of staying over for the meeting. The stewards found occasion to censure two riders this afternoon. Bow ley, who had the mount on Liustn iu the first race, was suspended for two days and W. Walker, who rode Key Mar in the fifth. was cautioned. The latter interfered with the lav.nitc. Tar/.an. on the stretch turn and again at the furling post. Tarzan was good enough, however, to overcome the interference and win by a length and a half. Incidentally this was Walkers first mount in a couple of years. The lad acts as assistant to George Miller, who does the starting at tlie half mile tracks around Baltimore. H. G. Bed well will leave for Toronto on Thursday next. A. G. Weston will ship a division of the Thomas Clyde ami W. F. Presgrave stable to the Woodbine track on Tuesday and W. R. Mizell will also l"ave the same day for Toronto. The owner of the son of Ogden refused to entertain the proposition, stating that he would not sell him at imv price. The colt is insured for 0,000. He was purchased last season for ,200.
