Principal Race of Program Declared Off and Mile Dash for Selling Platers Is Substituted — Public Fails to Pick a Winner. Louisville, Ky., June 5. -A heavy storm last night brought about changed track conditions and accounted for many withdrawals from some of the race! at Douglas Park today. The original fourth race suffered particularly and was declared off. An extra race of 3780, at a mile, for the better grade ot platers was snbsti rated and served as the tea lure. Betting surprises were the order throughout the afternoon, not a first choice getting home in advance. The longest priced w inner develop d iu the fourth race when Loveland got to the finish iu advance of Boaae Chance. The winner paid her fortunate backers at the rate of 77 to 1. Loveland was lucky to win and but for escaping interference on the first turn, where Bonne Chance was forced back, would have been beaten by the Livingston rt preseatative. Morris-town was the outstanding choice in the fourth, but Loveland and Donne Chaiue passed him handily in the stretch drive and accounted for first and second place. A misgaided plunge on Maria C. enabled the backers of Jessie Louise to obtain a good price and she won with consummate ease, Maria C. taking second place and Manners third. Glass, running in his best form, made a show of the favorite, Boo Hens-ley, in the losing dash and won well in hand. Funics lor the opening day at Latonia will he closed at the Douglas Park track at the usual time. 10:30 a. in. Entries will also be accepted up to that hour at the Latonia track and will be telephoned to Acting Secretary J. B. Campbell here, who will announce them from this track. The entry of J. H. Burr was declared out of the fifth race by the stewards and further entries from the stable of R. I Dodson refused until the owner ship of such horses is established to the satisfaction of the officials. Last season these borsch rau in the name and ownership of G. M. Johnson, who was suspended by the Jockey Club last November. Jockey Dislunon was fined 0 by the stewards m complaint of jockey Taylor that the formal- hid struck him with his whip during the running of the second race. T. C. McDowell received word today that lightning had destroyed one of the barns at his Ashland farm and that several of the employes on the place had a narrow escape from death at the time. None of his horses was injured and the damage will not exceed ,000. J. linciiseiter and Green B. Morris will ship their horses to Butte. Mont., tomorrow. Beth will return to Kentucky in the fall after their campaign on far western tracks. The lucky backers of the successful combinations were paid handsomely this afternoon.
