June 5. — The racing contingent went to New Orleans tonight jubilant over the galas, of the week in the state legislature. They it. .ally got the Bernhardt bill out of the city affairs committee last night with a favorable report on a vote of 1! to 0. The city members are practically onanimous in favor of a return of racing under proper regulations. The bill has been amended to make it apply to all counties in the state, and car-: ies the referendum feature, by which twenty per cent of the electorate can order an election, either to vote racing in or afterwards vote it out, if found obnoxious. The membership of the commission is cut down from five to three and minors arc strictly prohibited from entering race courses.
