During the early racing Deagro seemed capable of keeping pace with the McDowell lillv. but just before rounding the lirst I urn Martin appeared to lave badly Interfered with Deagro. lac atewarda took this view and received corroboration from Connelly, but on report of patrol judge l:i land, who was stationed at the ]»oiiit where the incident occurred, that Martin had not interferred with Deagro, and that the cause for that colt dropping hack was due to Connellys action in taking him back, the stewards naturally took judge Irelands view and refrained from suspending Martin, as they had contemplated. Star ORyan was unlucky to lose in the fifth, in which he was by far the best, but succumbed by the narrowest kind of a margin to Loveland. which, under a light impost, showed a much improved performance over her last essay.
