June 16. — Routine racing was the ■ hi at Latonia this afternoon with no untoward incidents, excepting that iu contrast to yesterdays showing. Dark flower, was the only favorite to score. T. C McDowell, the owner of this juvenile, also furnished the winner of the fourth lice in which the best field started. In the latter dash he was represented by Huntress, which has done but little racing, and invited scarcely any support except from jix-key Martins followers. She broke forwardly. siiowed extreme speed and won well in hand over Incle Hart and Miss Declare, with the favorite. Bac. fallowing. The upset of the choices begau in Hie opener, when Rhodes, regarded as best in the race, landed third to Malabar and flossle Crocket. flic winner is owned by .!. N. Patience was given the call in the second race, but i. W. Carroll, who returned today from Canada :iid had the mount, appeared to lie unable to handle lei well and she landed third, furhrtig winning well in hand over Galley Slave. Dark flower won as if much the best in her race and finished far iu advance of Dorothy Perkins and Outlook. During the early racing Deagro seemed capable of keeping pace with the McDowell lillv. but just before rounding the lirst I urn Martin appeared to lave badly Interfered with Deagro. lac atewarda took this view and received corroboration from Connelly, but on report of patrol judge l:i land, who was stationed at the ]»oiiit where the incident occurred, that Martin had not interferred with Deagro, and that the cause for that colt dropping hack was due to Connellys action in taking him back, the stewards naturally took judge Irelands view and refrained from suspending Martin, as they had contemplated. Star ORyan was unlucky to lose in the fifth, in which he was by far the best, but succumbed by the narrowest kind of a margin to Loveland. which, under a light impost, showed a much improved performance over her last essay. J. Henry, who iiad the mount on Star ORyan. made the mistake of attempting to get through along the inner rail. Neylon kept him in close quarters and beat him to the Bnisb by a nose. Had Henry taken his mount to the outside he would nave won handily. Miss Thon.,.. the favorite ol the race, has been troubled with ihdicaic underpinning for some time ami retired alter showing promincnfiv for three-quarters, though she lasted for third place. After main trials, the racing luck broke in favor and. aided by poor handling that the favorite. Veicia. goi. tin Miles racer had little difficulty in winning the dash that dosed the program. Golden Treasure broke down in this race. I nrlong and Dark flower, comprising the two-horse ion. yielded 0.05 for .
