I . I i ■ CHICAGOANS IMPRESSIONS OF ASCOT. In the course of his investigations of current things abroad. William Ryan, of Chicago, took oce-a-| sion to view the racing at the recent Ascot meeting in Fngland and was impressed both favorably and unfavorably, the latter ni account of the crowding incident to an attendance greater than COBld be comfortably accomodated at "BeyeJ Ascot." In the coarse of s.inie aatea rxmceraiag his impre-ssions and experiences, he says: There was aaach style, possp and excellent horses. Ascot has accommodations for about 25.000 people Mini there were 200,000 present. The paddock, bet ting and other departments arc- so scattered that it makes hard work for spectators to cover the- ground. so I am re-turning to Prance, where srraagessents are more comfortable and shall stay there until the running of the Grand Irix Be Paris. "Was impressed with Maieh-n Frlegh. which appears and runs like a crn.ke-rjac-k. I saw him win I be Rous Mi-niorial Stakes in a c-anle-r from the smart colt Fvausdale. On the same day the somewhat unusual occurrence of a dead heat f..r sec end place marked the running of the Granville Slakes, which Armant won with Torchlight and Dolabeila a tie for second money. The Cold Cup was contested by capital horses and was a fairly run race. The Preach crack Rruleer, which was the favorite-, had beea in a race at Chantilly the previous Sunday, which had evidently taken the edge from his si il. but he tinislie-el a good fourth to Aleppo. Wlllhrook and Junior. One thing that im-nresaea an experienced observer is that the good English horses are quite remarkably gum- erea-tars. on looks ale ie. I had a small Investment straight on P.raxled to win and on Lie a Bed to show in the Royal Hunt Cup. which the latter won. with Brsxted seeoad, with twenty five horses running, which was COSsIag pf.-Uv etaM to the mark in a ilillii-ult rac-e."
