GOSSIP AND COMMENT FROM KENTUCKY. Cincinnati. .. June IB.— The meeting at Latouia this summer has. perhaps, received more compliments from visiting turfmen and patrons than any previous meeting at this popular course. Manager John Haehim ister has constantlv improved the tone ol the racing at Latouia. which has the longest season ot ui Kentucky tracks, in spite of the tact that its dates cover a period of extreme heat in this section, local interest is constantly grow ing. Great things are In store for the Latouia coins,. ■ the future. Indications are thai the greatest of all fall meetings in the history of the track will be given here next autumn. Latonia perhaps, draws patronage from Central Kentucky to a greater extent than either of the great Louisville tracks, and this counts greatly in its gate receipts. The stakes, purses and handicaps are how so liberal on the Kentucky tracks that there is little chance for great profits, hut it is a matter worthy of note that each of the great courses In this state receive a fair return on the track Investment. Tlie many states now unfavorable to racing perhaps might be won back to the sport if their leading citizens were to visit Latouia and other Kentucky tiaeks and see tin- sport as conducted under the pari niutnel system of betting. It is rapidly taking the place of all other amusements in Ken-tacky, which is attested by the fact that against all opposition il draws two for one. The stables now rating at Latonia will be scattered considerably at the close of the P" cnl meeting. A number of Ihe leading strings will ship direct from here lo Windsor, where the first meeting begins .Inly l." . A lew Btrlngs will remain at Lex ingliui. Douglas Park and Churchill Downs until the fall season begins in this slate, and there arc one or two owners of a few horses who will remain at Latonia through part of ihe month of August. Stables shipped east from here to take part in New York racing will go to the Empire City track. where ihe big meeting will begin July 11. E. R. Bradley will likely send several members of his stable to this track, and J. T. Wearer will send his string. Including his Empire City Handle. in 1 candidal". Gowell. Some of J. N.
