PIN ZAKETA IN LUCKY WIN NEWMAN FILLY SCORES FLUKY VICTORY IN HANDICAP AT DOUGLAS PARK. Consistent and Speedy Daughter of Abe Frank Beat3 Leo Skolny and Lcocharcs by Narrow Margin P. T. Newmans fleet and sturdy filly. 1an Zareta, scored a lucky victory at Douglas Park today in the six furlong handicap, in her llrst essav since coming here from Canada, when she outstayed Leo Skoluy and Leo-chnrcs in a stirring iinisli. Her success was materially aided by the snug ride that jockey Loftus gave her. Leochares was probably best at the weights, but he was forced to go wide on account of his outside post position, and the ground he lost thereby was considerably more than the margin bo was beaten. Favorites were in total eclipse during the afternoon, but the. "smart set" fared well, for Pan Maid, Oakland, Col. Marehmont and Luther came in for their attention and made good commahdingly. Another big crowd witnessed the sport, and the betting was on a par with that of former days. It. L. Baker is negotiating with John W.j Schorr for the purchase of hd Crump. Mr. Baker stated this afternoon that he had oiiercd 2,500 Ifor the colt, but that Mr. Schorr wants 5,000 for him. After Luthers victory in the closing dash he was bid up from an entered price of 400 to 905 and retained. Miss Fielder and Pan Maid, the winning two-horse combination, yielded 5.35. The lield backers won the three-horse combination and each received 95. Phil T. Chiuu, who lias been in Europe the greater part of the year in quest of racing material for Jefferson Livingston, returned last night to Louisville with thirty-one horses which are now quartered at Churchill Downs. The entire band shipped from England in good condition and lauded at Louisville in liiie shape. They were eleven. days, en route from Loudon to Louisville and were given the best of -attention during their trip. The yearling which were bought for Jefferson Livingstons account number twenty head and are by the following highly regarded sires: Sir Harry, Wuffy, Land League, Cicero. Collar. Colin. St. Amant,-y Pictoti, Polymelus, Fowling Piece, Dark Ronald, ; Forfarshire, Han try, Troutbeck, Santoi, White Eagle, Orby and John OGaunt. The last named 1 tVi sired the only tlllies in this collection. The oidcr -horses comprise the following seven, whlcu will be- raced in the colors of J. Kelly, a New York sportsman: Glencairn. Short Grass, Runny-iniHle, Lady Colonist, Northlight. Ilanwortk and llevll Fish. The following trio will be raced in the interest of P. T. Chinn: Miss Chaucer. Pictons Pride and Lady Flotsam. One stallion was purchased by Mr. Chinn for his own account. Ho is the six-year-old Brummell by Desmond Beautys Daughter, by Galliiiule. The older horses will be raced at the coming Churchill Downs meeting. The entire consignment will remain under the direct management of P. T. Chinn. who will supervise tlieli- training and also superintend the breaking of tin; yearlings.
