1 t 1 1 ; : , . : : - NEW YORK RACING REGAINING LOST GROUND Considerably More Than Half a Million Dollars Distributed Among Horsemen by the Racing Associations of the Empire State During the Season Recently Closed 4 : ; 4" The New lork racing season of 1014 has ended and a survey of the results shows that the sport in that section of America is making-rapid strides towards rehabilitation. When racing was resumed on the New-York tracks in 101.!, after a -suspension- of two years, the total distribution for the season reached the highly respectab:e figure -of 02, 003. This year finds the total increased toS0,SG0. which, it must be conceded, is an exceedingly healthy showing. Increases in stake values have already been announced for next season and there is every reason for entertaining the hope and expectation that it will not be long before. New Yori: regains its former proud position of leader in American, thoroughbred racing affairs. The season just ended on the New Yorlr tracks was made up of 109 racing days, as compared with 75 in 1013. Of course the showing for 1914 still falls far short of that of the golden days of the turf, prior to the passage of repressionary legislation. The high water year of New York racing was 3007, when the distribution reached the princely sum of ,017,802. As compared with 1909 and 1910, the years immediately preceding the suspension of the sport, the showing for 1914 is indeed encouraging. The distribution for 1909 was .S95, while in 1010 it was" 90,050. Although the Pping Rock Racing Associations offerings fell off in value as compared with the preceding year, it still retains the lead in the iterjJoC-avcrage daily distribution, with Saratoga a close second.
