STATISTICS OF RACING IN ENGLAND. Greatly abridged by the War of Nations, the English flat racing season of 311 1 will come to an end Saturday, November 2S. with simultaneously conducted meetings at Manchester and Lingfield Park. It is a tribute to the stedfastness of the British temoerametit that racing has been carried ou as it lias, while the nation was courageously facing and sustaining military stress of unexampled severity and scope. Many meetings customarily held each vear were abandoned, but all of the greater ones except the York Summer were dispatched without curtailment. One feature of the racing campaign greatly -pleasing to Englishmen Is the fact that King George had his best year so far as a turfman and in his splendid colt Friar Marcus possesses an Epsom Derby candidate of next year with credentials second to none. It has been a year of great success for J. B. Joel, who is easily the leader among winning owners. In the list of winners of 5,000 or more, only two American owners have a place. H. B. Duryea through Durbars victory in the Epsom Derby and II. P. Whitney, who owes Inclusion in the list to the extraordinary speed of Harnionlcon. now In this country and destined to grace American racing next year. Up to and including October 24 the owners whose horses had won aggregates of 5,000 or more were the following: Winning Races Amount Owner. Horses. Won. Won His Majesty, the King 5 11 $ 58,722 J. .11. Lady of Asia and Nassau gained places in the list since Daily Raclug Form last published English turf statistics. Of the newcomers Trois Temps gained a high place in the winning list, when on October 1, he won the rich Jockey Club Stakes for W. Astor and put his owner second to J. B. Joel in the winning owners list. Friar Marcus placed himself first among tlie two-jear-olds of the year when he captured the much-prized Middle Park Plate. Of the other new ones all but Nassau are two-year-olds, and good ones. The list of winners of the sum named is as follows: Races Amount Horse, Col. Sex, Age and Pedigree. Won. Won.
