WATKINS STABLE ARRIVES AT BOWIE Baltimore Md March IS The stable of Riehatd K Watkins wellknown Texas turfman whose colors have been much in the limelight for the past few seasons on the Maryland tracks has arrived at Prince Gcqigos Park Howie for tin twelveday meeting of the Southern Maryland Fair Association which is to be inaugurated April 1 Mr Watkins will have 11 shifty string of tlmronglihrcds to send to the post at Howie the best known of which are Boxer Harrv Shaw HIackford Mrs Campbell Ilammarion Barmgat 1 It Hanell and Iloltcn Ihe Vatkilis racers came from New Orleans where they were shipped at the conclusion of the sport at Iahnctto Park Charleston where Mr YVatkins ranked among the most successful of the owners and trainers trainersloxer loxer proved himself one of the most useful mem ¬ bers of the establishment last fall and during the winter at Charleston and Is expected to develop Into one of the leading threeyearolds of the season He was late to get going last season for it was not un ¬ til the Havre d Grace meeting rolled around thit the opportunity came for the son of Star Shoot to display his class During the fall meeting over the course of the Harford County Agriculture und Binodors Association he won the Krdenbehn Han ¬ dicap for twoyearolds at four and a half furlongs in which he outraced such fleetfooted youngsters as Hanson Sir Edgar Lady Barbary Sarsanet Harry Junior and Dr Lairick From Havre e trace Boxor was shipped to Charleston where he won two or three stakes and later won at the Fair Grounds New Orleans OrleansIt It will be remembered that Mr Watkins purchased Harry Shaw from K 1 Allison during the Havre de Grace meeting He was one of the best three yearolds at Howie last fall and raced well after ¬ wards especially over muddy tracks tracksKarnegat Karnegat carried the Vatkins colors in a number of stakes In the cast and In Canada last season HIackford is well known to turf folk as are Holton Flammarion and J H Harrell FlammaHou was raced here as a twoyeaiold by David Gideon and was a consistent performer until he broke down at Laurel last October a year ago Along with the Watkins stable came W A BurttschoH who will linvo a swell string to race at Bowie BowieThe The fastest work at Howie thus far was reported yesterday when School for Scandal went a quarter in 2r seconds School for Scandal is a twoyearold chestnut tllly by Gloritier Dlainoutiiift and was among the juvenile winners during the winter meet ¬ ing at New Orleans The lilly was formerly owned by Dr 1 S Tyrce but is now being trained by Jack Fraters who will also start another New Orleans winner Lady Atkins a twoyearold daugh ¬ ter of Jack Atkins Grail that will race in the interests of II Paul C during the coming meetlhgs in Maryland
