GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY The German official report of yesterday on tho progress of hostilities as received from Berlin is as follows The fighting between the Mouse and the Moselle continued yesterday In the plain of the Woevre east and southeast of Verdun all French attacks failed In the Comhrcs hills forces of tho enemy which have at certain points pene ¬ trated into our outer trenches were driven back by a counter attack Battalions of tho enemy which advanced against our positions from the wood of Selouze north of St Mihiel were driven back into the forest with heavy losses Bitter fighting at short range is again going on iu the forest of Ailly In the forest west of Apremout our troops are in pursuit of the enemy who made an unsuccessful attack Their attacks on posi ¬ tions north of Flirey as well as two evening attacks west of the Lo Prctre forest broke down under our fire and they suffered heavy losses Three French advances in the night iu the Lo Pretre forest failed The total of French losses along the entire front again has been extraord ¬ inarily heavy without their gaining even the slightest Success An aeroplane of the enemy coining from Paris was forced to
