GETAAYAY DAY AT JUAMZ WINTER MEETING OF 123 DAYS WILL COME TO A CLOSE THIS AFTERNOON All Records Broken for Duration of Season at Mexi ¬ can Course Improvements in Prospect for Next Winter El Paso Tex April 10 The reason for the ex ¬ tension of the Juarez meeting which will close to ¬ morrow at the end of 112 days of racing can in large measure be attributed to the interruptions of the meeting because of bad weather conditions during the past winter The winter just ended was the most unpleasant at various intervals ever experienced here and its like may never be seen again againThe The present meeting has extended over a greater number of racing days than that of any winter season of the sport since the Oakland track in California closed The lirst meeting at the Juarez track in laoiilHO ran for SC racing days anl since there has been no meeting that has not covered more than 100 racing days The meeting just closod has broken all records and horsemen have again been shown that the management of this course will do everything possible to make things satis ¬ factory all around Next reason such difficulties as have arisen during the present meeting will be overiome The track improvements soon to be undertaken will obviate the necessity of post IMineinents such as occurred this season and when the sport Is resumed next Thanksgiving day the course will be in such shape as to permit racing even after the heaviest rains and suovvs The season has been a financial success for the club but the bookmakers are heavy losers losersIn In reviewing the meeting about to close the work of Hurry F Broivogel in tho capacity of assistant to manager M J Viun merits more than passing mention He lias invariably discharged Ids duties with the spirit that tomorrow would be better than today and no matter how dark the out ¬ look appeared to others especially when the sus ¬ pension came he has always been optimistic Then lie took charge entirely when Manager Winn was compelled to leave lie has not overlooked a single detail and has undoubtedly made many new frleitdfc here tills season He has demonstrated an ability to conduct a race meeting successfully whenever it Is necessary for Manager Winn to leave him in charge and in common with the manager and president of the Jockey Club Juarez he enjoys the good will of all horsemen who have raced here this winter winterEugene Eugene Klrod is another of the hard workers at the track who deserves praise for his conduct of affairs in the betting enclosure and all its ad ¬ juncts during the long meeting He has not missed a single race during the days of the sport stud he will return to Kentucky in the bust of health to take up his duties there in charge of the adminis ¬ tration buildings and the parimutucl machines operated on all the courses of the state He has had more experience m connection with the parimtituel beting system than any man now on the race tracks his lirst servicu in this respect dating back to the early eighties Mr Klrod is also one of the most expert calculators connected with racing and can discern at a glance a mistake made by any man working under him in any capacity During Ids service on the tracks Ids ability in this respect has saved the courses with which he has been con ¬ nected many thousands of dollars and is knowl ¬ edge of human nature has enabled him to pick the right men for positions of responsibility and trust under him himAll All of todays races carried selling conditions The fields were comparatively small but still the talent found it difficult to select the winners Xeuo tek and Art Kick being the only favorites that succeeded in scoring With the exception of Mario Coghiil all the other winners were second or third choices however howeverSeveral Several mares have been purchased by W A Brown of Oklahoma City for breeding purposes and they were shipncd there today Among the lot are Sainville Sly Sal Elsie Green Lnclla Moore wood Miss Boo Winifred D and Trojan Belle
