AMONG THE AMATEURS New York April 11 There will be no dearth of I gentlemen riders for the various hunt meet ¬ ings this year from the present outlook At the lecent meeting of the limits Committee of which Joseph K Davis president of the Piping Rock ssoeiatioii is chairman riding certificates wort granted to IL S Page Charles L Appleton and Karl Whitteudalo for the 115 meetings Certifi ¬ cates as hunters were granted to T Harper Bon noils Uncas Whitney Kenochans Nina J I Cliamberlalns Laguiappe Mr Chetlands Ace of Clubs Cray Planet and Itama Cnlla S L Joseph thals Julia Welsh Stniwhridgos Mayor Head and William T Clothiers Mellonoro Mr Clotliier is iiu of the foremost tennis players of the coun ¬ try in addition to being an enthusiastic hunts ¬ man manG G Bernard Fenwick the Maryland roprosouta tive in the Hunts Committee with the approval of his associates will shortly ask tin Rules Com ¬ mittee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association to make provisions for what ho be ¬ lieves lias been an abuse of the hunter classifi ¬ cation For several years back a few owning hunters with just enough jumping ability to ob ¬ tain for them a certificate have never bid for lumping races devoting their entire attention to lint races and in many instances have competed in open races nt the regular tracks Mr Feu wioks idea is to penalize evasions of this sort by a forfeiture of the right to start a hunter at the smaller meetings by those participating ill open races on the tlat except at hunt meetings
