ALLY SLOPERS GRAND NATIONAL VICTORY The running of the Grand National Steeplechase at Liverpool March U was viewed by a great as ¬ semblage and there was much satisfaction in Eng ¬ lish racing circles Nylsim by a couple of lengths from Jacobus which in turn was eight lengths in front of Father Con ¬ fessor Close up Alfred Noble was fourth and following him in the order named came Thowl Pin Silver Top and Balscadden which must surely have won but for hs fall though the winner also had two narrow escapes from coming to grass The remainder of the racing calls for little comment except to note with satisfaction the resticitation of Itoselaml which made a rare example of the opposition for the Bickerstaffe Stakes and thereby reminded ore forcibly of his highclass twoyear old form while Matter acquitted himself smartly in winning tho iBridgenian Stakes and Mr Basset completed a nice double event with St Gluvias in the Knowsley Plate PlateV V lady owner won the Grand National yester ¬ day for the lirst time in the history of the race Ally Sloper being the property of Lady Nelson Ally Sloper was the lirst sixyearold to win since Ambush II carried the Itoyal colors lirst home in 1901 though many others have scored at that agf including Droghcda Ilex Roquefort Voluptuary Koedono Seaman The Colonel and Tlie Lamb while Emblematic was a sixyearold when he won for Lord Coventry liftyone years ago Ally Slopers pedigree by the way traces back to the Chester Cup winner of 1S7K Our Mary Ann The victory was heartily received Ally Sloier is trained by the Hon A Hastings who also
