LAST OF KEENE HORSES TO BE SOLD Xever in the history of American breeding did ueli success attend a breeder as was attained by the late James K Keene owner of Castleton Not only was he a success as a breeder but his racing stable won more money than that of any other ac ¬ complishing this with horses from his own nursery Since the death of Mr Keene all the breeding stock owned at Castleton have been dispersed and the last horses in which the estate has an interest will be sold at Lexington during the spring race meeting on Tuesday May 4 These are yearlings which were bred oil shares and must be sold to divide the Interests They are the got of the famous Castleton stallions that made Mr Keene remarkable suc etsn possible possibleThere There are fiftyfive yearlings lo be offered the got of such sires as Ballot Celt Fair Play Hastings Jack Atkiu Peter Quince Superman Sweep Trans ¬ vaal ritimus Waterboy etc and they are owned as stated by the Keene estate and various breeders breedersIn In 1 12 there were 1840 foals registered with the Jockey Club in ij there were 101 and while ligures for 14 an not available it is presumed that there were a few less recorded tills year It Is a matter of record that only aliont 25 per cent of registered foals find their way to the sales ring and this being the case one can count on about i75 head beins available this year The Sale of the Mighty at Lexington May 4 includes fiftylive head about 15 per cent of all yearlings that will he offered this year A catalog of this sale which may be had by addressing the Kentucky Sales Co will prove that the cream of the entire yearling crop is to be dis ¬ posed of at this time tracing conditions in Ken ¬ tucky were never better and the rich offerings of the various associations have attracted the best horses in tlie country Verily a trip to Lexington this spring will IK worth while
