pounds and was worked in blinkers Kilkenny Boy kept right along in the wake of his great stable mate and his performance was also Impressive though It is supposed he had up much lighter weight than the son of Bch Brush BrushThe The trial demonstrated that Pebbles possesses an abundance of speed and that he can cover the ground as impressively as Old Rosebud did in his Derby preparation last season seasonThe The only other work of any Derby eligible wan by Sam McMeekin in J B Maddens stable He went a slow mile in 147 He looks good and Is evidently woll advanced In his training this spring The only other Butler horse 10 work for speed was Caprice handilyA which went lire furlongs in 104 handily A twoyearold in J K Maddens stable did the best work of any of the youngsters a quarter in 22 Trainer Pete Coyne In charge of George J Longs horses sent Dundreary and Harold two threeyearolds six furlongs in 110 and both acted like useful performers The twoyearold black lilly Ava Trovato in William Gersts string went a quarter in 23 and looks like a speedy youngster She is by Ben Trovato out of Ava by Atheling and traces to the Levity family Air Gerst bought her last fall from C B Reid who bred her for 250 and it looks as if he surely got a bargain She may not be of stake class but it will take a fairly good oiie to beat her when just at her best bestThe The best work of any other horse at the Downs was that of Gipsy Love in W 5 Yankes string which went six furlongs in 117 Hodge was among the other horses of note on the track but lit only galloped slowly by the side of a pony for two miles He looks better than ever this spring and has already been a mile as fast as 144 He looks like a grand fouryearold prospect this spring as lie is high in flesh and unusually hardy in bodily condition As he will not be compelled to undergo such a preparation as lie did last season for the Kentucky Derby he should win more races tills season In ll Hodge led the race winning two yearolds of America by capturing fifteen races including some stakes stakesBoth Both President Grainger and Manager Winn were at the Downs as usual yesterday and are elated over the rapid way in which the work is lining rushed along on tin improvements at the big plant which will give spare for the comfortable accom ¬ modation of from eight to ten thousand more people than have ever before witnessed a race on a Ken ¬ tucky track As now arranged there need be no congestion in the future at this course no matter how large the crowd may be that comes to see the Derby In the grandstand will not take Prince Hermis his crack fiveyearold to Lexington and that good performer will do his first racing of 1SH at the Downs He is lusty and high in Hesh this season and ha done no racing since last fall He should be a dangerous quantity in all the overnight han ¬ dicaps as well as what stake engagements be has to meet this spring Marlon sent only two fillies to Lexington they being Oda May and Boston Belle BelleW W S Trevey who had Hawthorn as a two and threeyearold thinks that he will win tin Ken lucky Oaks with Ormuiii which he took to Lexing ¬ ton a few days ago with Mama Johnson Trevey still has live horses at th r Downs none of which will race until the spring racing season opens Inkle which was in bis stable all winter has been shipped to Raniocas Farm in New Jersey to be
