KINGS PLATE CONDITIONS IMPROVED IMPROVEDThough Though the sky was pvercast and the track damp at Woadbine on Saturday the going was first class and there was plenty of useful and interesting work that of the Platers attracting the most at tention All are in forward condition and the number of trainers with high anticipations in re ¬ gard to the disik sition of the Guineas this year exceeds all records It used to be urged in opposi tion to the proposal to allow winning twovear lds to run for the Plate at three that the exposure of their form would rob the Plate of one of its chief charms its uncertainty The outcome of a practical test of that contention has been to entirely upset it There never was a year in which the result of the race was so much a matter of doubt and there never was a year in which so many or the Platers had twoyearold racing records to go by So much Is this tlie case that if none ti ¬ the threeyearolds had run last year and there was no public form on which to base expectations Mr G hidings would be a fourtofive choice at this date whereas his chances are represented prettv fairly at about six to one or longer The effect of varying the Plate conditions to the extent of jicrmitting twoyearold winners to participate has certainly not been to Injuriously affect tlie at trartivenessiflf the event while the change has enabIed owners to earn a considerable amount dur ¬ ing the season preceding the race Francis Nelsou in Torontoi Globe
