ANIMATED RACING AT HAVRE DE GRACE. Short Grass Vindicates His English Form and Runs an Excellent Race. Baltimore. Mil., September 2i. — No stakes were down for decision here today, tiut two handicaps, one for two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs, and the other for all ages at a mile and seventy yards, were offered as features. In the former j. S. Tyrees King Neptune was returned the winner in a driving finish by a short nose over Orasesdale, while in the latter Kmil Hen scored an impressive victory with his Knglish-bred horse Short Grass. In both instances the winner came from behind and ran a remarkable race to gain the decision. Of the eight carded starters in the second race Remembrance was the only withdrawal. Startling showed in front with Oruiesdale in close pursuit and the winnei under restraint not far back. Turner was forced to go to the outside on the Stretch turn and. showing rare sameness. King Neptune got up hi the closing strides. Short Uraaa was esix,.,i to shoulder top weight in his dash ami was restrained behind the early pacemaker. Cock o the Walk. He was taken to the outside on the stretch turn and. oatgamiag Holy in the final drive, was going away at the end. The card was again productive of wholesome sport. John Sanford has consigned the two-year-olds Red Clouel and Dancer to the sale of horses in training that will be conducted in the paddock lie fore the races tomorrow. One reason given for the many scratches from the opening dash this afternoon was the presence of J. W. Hedricks Napier in the race. It will hi remembered that on one occasion at Saratoga last month, after all the scratches were in. Napier bad a walkover. Six were left today to oppose the Ileeirie-k gelding after eight hail been withdrawn. A new rule has gone into effect on the race trains from Baltimore. Washington and Philadelphia.
