NEW ORLEANS STABLE ROOM INCREASED. New Orleans. Ocioln-r 11.— At a spe?ial meeting of the Business Mens Bacing Association directorate Friday .09 was subscribed to Mayor Behrmans i.lief" fund for the storm sufferers. The meeting was held at the De Soto Hotel. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, who will again preside in the Fair Grounds stand, presided. It was decided, in view of the extraordinary demand for stable room for the winter meeting commencing Januarv 1. to increase the stable room at the grounds to 1.000 stalls. Manager Murphy announced his staff of officials for the winter as follows: Joseph A. Murphy, presiding judge and manager: Joseph McLennan, associate judge and racing secretary: J. B. Campbell, associate judge and Clerk of the scales: A. B. Dade. starter: Herman Conkling. patrol judge and jockeys agent: John Carey, paddock .judge; Dr. II. I.. Jensen, timer; A. P. Page Bad II. I.. Block, auditors; Charles Waltring. chief of stakeholders; Dr. Beetle Block, physician. This is practically the same staff as last year, except that Herman Conkling has lieen aibb-il as patrol judge and jockeys agenr. ronkllng Is on ■ of the officials under the jurisdiction of the Beaten Jockey Club, and will take direct supervision of the jockeys, wiio will be made to conform to a strict standard of discipline. The demand for stable room is becoming a serious problem. The applications are reaching the Business Mens Bacing Association from maiiv different channels. W. T. Wagoner, of Haiina. Okla.. applied through the Association of Commerce; J. L. Hart, of Chicago, through the St. Charles Hotel. "and many merchants are receiving letters, asking them to apply at the proper source.
