. . CAULFIELD CUP PLACED HORSES. All of the first three in Ibe Caulfichl Cup. which was run on Saturday. October 17. were horses imported from England. The winner was the four-year-old Laveinlo. which was followed home by William the Silent and Cyklui. I.aveudo is owned by the Messrs. A. and G. Tye. ami is trained by I.. Roliertson. He is by Chaucer — Ijivella. and was bred by A. L. Christie and sent out to Australia in 1012 as a foal, together with his dam. which had bi-en covered by Troutlicck. William Me Silent, likewise a four-year-old according to Australian reckoning, is by William the Third — Silent Ijidy. and Cyklon is. of course, the alien-enemy horse of that name which usiil to In-long to Count I.ehiilorff as representative of the Prussian Royal Graditz Stud. I.aveudo was haiulirat i otl at loo pounds, and William the Silent at ninety-seven pounds, but Cyklon had the fairlv substantial impost of 114 pounds to shoulder. The Caulfichl Cup was well worth winning. Run over a mile and u half, it is a handicap of 5,000. of which the second receives ,750 and the third ,250.
