Lord Rosebery. for instance, being then -third, but finally winding up in fifth place, when I the racing of the year was over. It was winning 1 the Middle Iark Plate with his good two-year-old colt Argos that established L. Neumann firmly in 1 the leadership, after the victory of I.uuius in the Jockey Club Stakes had moved him up on almost i even terms with Sid Joel. His primacy was achieved by amassing a total of 7,730 in stable earnings. I which compare poorlv with J B. Joels total of over 50,000 iu 1014 and 2o.OOO iu 1013. la . view of the restriction of racing, however, his chances of winning were much less in IMS than 1 in MM preceding years of peace. "Solly" Joel finished second to him with 6,680, nearly all of 1 which was won h Iommern. a somewhat singular circumstance in view of his great and superbly-i equipped breeding establishments, with his champion sire Polymelus at the head. His brother. J. B. , Joel, comes third, with the Manchester turfman , and newspaper man, E. Huiton. in fourth place i and Lord Rosebery next. King Georges horses won well for him in 1014. but this year he did not oven qualify for a place in the list of winners of .«i00 or more, his total of winnings for 1915 . being .S75. However, some of his two-year-olds ran quite well and may lie able to bring about ] more satisfactory results in the racing of next year. ; The final stable records of the owners whose ; horses won an aggregate of ,000 or more were: Winning Races Amount Owner. Black Jester, earned I distinction as the winner of the largest sum credited to one animal, his five successes carrying with them just over 5,000. During the racing season I just closed, another son of the Cambridgeshire winner or 19 H similarly distinguished himself. Reference is. of course, made to Ponuuern. which. in addition to winning the "triple crown* — or. at least, its equivalent — wound up the year by taking the Limekiln Stakes, the four races in ques- tion Mm worth iu the bulk 6.«HI0. Danger Rock, which 1 failed by 0 to reach 5.o00. won the New - market Stakes and Hastings Plate, while another animal to exceed 5,000 was Silver Tag. which 1 won three events, including the Cambridgeshire. Despite the fact that he failed on one or two 1 occasions on which success was expected. Black c Jester has more than paid his way, his triumph in the City and Suburban, which he wou with 120. • pounds in the saddle, and the June Stakes, having the effect of swelling his Avners winir-ig tota j by SH.400. Next to Black .Tester comes the five- vear-old Dladumenos. which won the Jubilee Handi- cap. of the value of 3,250. Volta follows with 2,000 odd. The English sire list of this year contains 240 names, a shrinkage of exactly 100 from the pre- - I ceding year. As was the case last year, Polymelus s is the premier, but the curtailment of racing has I affected the values most seriously. Polymelus him- i self has dropped nearly 0. OO, and whereas Wil- - ; Hani the Third was second last year with 09,165, , that place is now occupied by Dark Ronald with 1 0,515. Dark Ronald has s effected a strong advance, and a similar remark i i applies to Llangibby. St. Frusquin. Orby. Valens, , Rock Sand and Radium. Some of the older sires s have gone back: however, there is good promise t about the new generation whose stock have only Y just commenced to run. Suustar. That ho|»e was. however, un- . realized, and it was not until Newmarket Fifth u Extra meeting last month that the American horse- e" man donned cap and jacket after relimiuishing them m at Hurst Park in the December of 1913. Thai reap- t pearance was not associated with success, and his IS mount on Sun Yat. in the Eriswell Plate, is the le only one down to him for tlie racing season now w closed. By the absence of Maher and F. Wootton " in 1914 n better opportunity that had iK-fore pre-r °: sented itself was offered to jockeys of ability, and " Donoghue availed himself of it. In recent" years rs his progress has been marked, and in such request s were his sen-ices that no jockey had so many 5 mounts as he in 1913. when they "were only three 2 short of t»00. and he came out fifth iu order among the winners. This record was greatly bettered last J f year, when lie was a long way first with 129 successor " p.-arly double those of his nearest attendant in • the list — and augured well for the just-expired season. It did not take long to show that in all probability b he would for the second time Ix-at all his is rivals at the close of it. and probability soon became M a certainty — barring accidents. For a considerable le time he has held an unchallenged lead and finally iv claims sixty-two wins as the result of his efforts. •o He has had what must be considered a most satis-. . factory season in the circumstances of the time.
