; HAVANAS CAPITAL OPENING PRESIDENT MEN0CAL AND ALL THE CUBAN ELITE WELCOME THE THOROUGHBREDS. Nourcddin Gets Up in Time to Win the Inaugural Handicap in a Close Finish with Brave Cunarder. Havana. Cuba, December 10. — A crowd of 5. HX persons turned out at Oriental Park this afternoon to witness the opening of the Cuba-American Jockey Clubs meeting. An afternoon of interesting racing was provided and the majority of finishes were close enough to arouse much enthusiasm. President Menocal. American Minister William Gon- zales and a numlier of prominent Cuban senators were among the vast throng present. The clubhouse balconies were crowded and every box in the big grandstand was occupied. The Inaugural Handicap went to Noureddin. which came from behind and just managed to get up in time to heat Brave Cunarder by a nose. Frank Martin arrived this morning with his stable from New Orleans. Jockeys Schuttinger, Parrington, Borel and Taplin were arrivals today. Twelve bookmakers were in line, including Tom McBride. F. Brogand. F. McConnell. Henry Weinlt. Tom Buckley. Gomez, Oscar Boclunaii, W. Kerry-liardt, Charles Porter. Charles Norris and R. B. Stelle. Two field books did business, one being iu the big ring and another within the field enclosure. The track was in splendid condition and fast time was made, two track records being reduced. J. Pitz was suspended for fifteen days for rough riding.
