Fast racing was plentiful enough and some horses of superlative speed were engaged in the years campaign, but the fact remains that in the course of the whole year only one new record was established. This was when with 120 pounds up Pan Zareta ran live eighths ot" a mile in 57Vb at Juarez, February 10. This effaced the record of 58 -u Is previously standing to the credit of Terns Trick and made at Oakland, Cal., December 29, 1910, when cat rying 97 pounds. It was fast sprinting, but over in England, Levanger, 123 pounds, Croat Surprise, 14:5 pounds, and the American filly, Coronis, 9:5 pounds, are in a tie at the same distance in the much faster time of 55%. The making of new records is not in itself a matter of great importance or desirability. Our records are in the main already so fast that it requires the combination of many favoring circumstances to • bring about the establishment of a new one of real merit. The table of ri cords has two otln-r new marks for 1915 in the way of ties. At Latonia, Ky., June 9, Leo Ray ran a mile and seventy yarels in 1:42. In doing this he joined Princess Callaway and Lovetie in a triple tie. Similarly Harry Shaw ran a mile and forty yards at Pimlico Novembe-r 9 in 1:42, and established another triple tie with Preen and Maiuchance. It is a curious circumstance that the time record for these two distances is the same, with three horses in eae-h case sharing the honors of the record. Of course, the performances at the longer distance of the two were the most meritorious. The table of records in fiat racing over all tracks in North America is now as follows: Dist. Horse. A. Wt.
