ENTHUSIASM MAINTAINED I NEW ORLEANS TRACK CROWDED WITH LADIES AND THEIR ATTENDANTS. Close Finishes Evoke Ready Applause — J. McTag- gart and P. Louder Earn Suspensions for Rough Riding. Now Orleans. La., January 4.— A crowd that filled every available inch of space in the huso grandstand gathered at the Fair Grounds this aftcr-lioou. It was ladies day and summer-like weather prevailed. Six races at a distance of one mile and over made up the card, hut not much could he said for the class of contestants in tiie different races. The Palm Garden presented scenes not unlike that of opening day and twenty-six additional stakehold-esr were appointed to assist the 150 previously em-jdojed. The ladies took a keen interest in the racing and its attending incidents and enjoyed the occasion hugely. Some of the finishes were of the thrilling sort and aroused the enthusiasm of the spectators to the highest pitch. That in the third race, when Transport. Fly Horn© and Helen ML reached the deciding point noses apart, and the close contest between Guide Post and Keno in the following dash created much excitement. Form was well observed, judging by the Palm Gar den action, for most of the winners came from tiie ranks of the best backed contenders. Judge Murphy was again after the rough riders and .1. McTaggart and P. Louder each suffered a buspension for six days. Jockey G. Byrne, who broke his collar bone when ho fell from Beyhoura last fall, will resume the saddle in a short time. He was recently in a serious automobile accident, but escaped injury, while his wife sustained numerous bruises. Harry White, who has been here for some time dotal missionary work to get horsemen to ship some of their horses to Havana, lias, according to his own statement, succeeded only moderately well and will leave for the Cuban capital Saturday. "Greatest meeting i ever saw," was his rot meat on the Fair Grands racing. According to official figures todays attendance surpassed that of any ladies day held last winter, excepting that of Hard!
