BULLAWARRA RETURNS TO HIS HOME. Another big batch of horses has lieen despatched I to Australia, among them being the chaser, Bulla-warra. which came over here with a view to winning the irand National. So far from accomplishing his mission, however, the gelding, which was • ridden by the Anglo-French jockey . Hawkins, mine to grief at the water jump in tront of the 1 stands after having occupied a prominent ]X s:tion 1 at ••Beechers" and "Valentines." By way of preliminary to the great Aintrce contest. Bulla -warra, which had been placed under Kscotts charge at Lewes, had run three times, first of all being ; unplaced to Silver Top in the I x bridge Handicap at Keuipton Park. He improved on this to the extent of finishing a creditable third to Ally Sloper and Alfred Noble, to which he was conceding seventeen and four pounds respectively, for the Granby Handicap at Sandowu Park, but lie made ratl.er a bad blot on his reputation when he came down at 1 one of the Hurst Park fences when contesting the * Champion Steeplechase against Balscadilcn. After j the Grand National. Bullawarra was well backed . for the Lancashire Steeplechase at Manchester, but the best he could do was to finish sixth. The gekV-ing therefore goes back to his native land without having done anything to justify the high hopes with which he set out. Another notable animal in the Australian contingent just alluded to is the three-year-old, Gadabout, half-brother, by St. Denis, to Cylgad. He was Iriiiight at the Newmarket sales for 1.500 guineas by Mr. Arthur Portman on behalf of a wealthy sportaasaa, Mr. Yuill. and will doubtless BhOtt hN new owner a handsome profit at the stud, whether In- ever races again or not. At the Craven nice ling lie won the Column Produce Stakes of 75s sovereigns and. as he afterwards finished fourth for the Two 1 Thousand Guineas, third for the Jockey Clnb stakes, and again third for the Jockey Club Cup. the colt was obviooslj not far removed from the tirst class of his year. An other MOB of St. Denis, and an even better known one. in Reiltern. was exported to Ail-traUa some months ;igo, and it will be Interesting, therefore, to watch the respective careers of these two descendants of St. Simon in their new home.
