NOTED ENGLISH BOOKMAKER PASSES ON. Mr. Charles Hibbert. the well known bookmaker and owner, died, at his residence. Tborneywood House. Nottingham, early Sunday morning. Decern htf 26, after aa illness of several weeks. lit caught cold at Newmarket in the Cesarewiteh week. and. at lending the final Newmarket meeting against the dictate* of prudence, made matters worae. A aeeere attack of pleurisy supervened, and although the patient once rallied he had a relapse and gradually sank. He leaves a widow, who has been lying ill many weeks, and tw daughters, one of whom is married to Mr. John Ford, the well-known racing official. It wys in connection with racing aud coursing that Mr. Hibbert was best known. As a bookmaker he occupied, perhaps, the foremost place in the ring, aud he had a long string of horses in training at Epsom and Newmarket. As a rule he diil not fly at "high game." but won the Manchester November Handicap with Ivor in 1S95. and four years ago took the Lincolnshire Handicap wilh Mercutio. on which he netted it is said ulioiit 90,000 pounds in bets. He was the heaviest winner in the stable when Ilex carried off the Grand National for the late Mr. Masteriiiau iu 1S90. Willi Red Lad. which lie lxuight after Tunning second to Ascetics Silver in 1000. he tried to win the Liverpool race for himself.
