WEER WINS WITH ANOTHER YOUNGSTER. Rain and Hail Cause Much Scratching and a Substitute Race. F.l Paso, Texas. January 20. — The mud runners had an inning at the Juarez track today as a result of rain, which fell during the night and made the going heavy. The card, originally of moderate pro IMirlions. naturally suffered from the withdrawals of the non-mud runners. The fourth race was so riddled with scratches that it was declared off and a new one substituted. The successes of two year olds from the stable of Frank I. Weir, which has been a feature of the racing here since the beginning; of the year, continued when Hondo accounted far the opening dash as a strong favorite. The colt appeared to like the muddy going. Argent and Quiz figured in a nose finish in the second race, for which they were the choices. The other contenders in this race were all beaten off. The carload of horses shipped to Tia .Tuana on Monday by J. M. Shilling had to be unloaded at Tucson, Ariz., owing to railroad traffic being suspended by washouts west of there. C. Hawk has purchased Striker for ,000 from Godfrey Preece. Husky Lad was held in highest esteem for the third raCO, hut third to Tillotson and Anne McG.e was the best he could do. The substitute race went to P.. A. Jones, with Thelnia Marie filling the role of runner up.
