i i i , I . ■ . ENGLISH SPRING RACING PROSPECTS. Knglisli turfmen have troubles in plenty to endure, the latest infliction being that there will be no spring meeting at Lincoln and so no Lincolnshire Handicap. Concerning just what may lie expected in the way of spring flat racing. "Augur" aid in London Sporting Life of January 19: "Now that Lincoln is to share the fate of Liverpool, one Stay be permitted to inquire where flat racing will lie resumed, if it is to be resumed at all away from Newmarket. The Craven Meeting at headquarters is fixed for April 11 and two following days, the First Spring for May 2 5, and the Second Spring for a fortnight later. There has been no attempt so far to revise the fixture list, which, with the exception of the removal of Liverpool in the opening week, remains a- originally arranged in the official •Calendar. Where are wo to make a begimiig. then? With Lincoln and Liverpool suppressed. Warwick, Llngaeld and Derby would tak.-the lead in tlie week March 27 to April 1. with two days each. 1 have no definite Information as regards the two Midland venues, but we know, at all events, that the Lingtield course is available and that it is passible to conduct meetings there without any interference- with railway traffic. "We are justified, therefore, in assuming that v batever occurs with regard to Warwick, a commencement will be made at Lingtield on March 29. Now for tin- mxt week. In this the fixtures are Leicester two days. Iontefract two days. Croxton Park one day, Newbary two days, and Stockton two days, there K I am afraid, little hope of the two noil hern meetings being brought off. while Croxton Park is SO essentially a county family and hunting society affair that the likelihood of a meeting taking place there this year is rather remote. Leicester, which was moved forward from the week preceding Faster, •when it followed Nottingham, is also. I am afraid, a doubtful proposition, am! BO «.■ are left with Newbury. The Berkshire coins,-, it will be remembered, was one to which no ob- lectiOB was offered bv the president of the Board of Trade, ami as it serve- an Important training district, there are reasonable grounds for hoping that racing will b,. permitted there this spring. "In tlie following week comes the Newmarket Craven meeting, already referred to, lasting three davs. but what will be the respective fates of the Fglint on Hunt rixturo at Bogside and that of the week-end at Hurst Park one cannot fetaee at the present moment. Nottingham i* allotted the usual two davs ill the week before Easter, but military requirements may prevent the gathering taking place, and to far as Baste* week is concerned hopes appear chiefly to center upon Epsoat, where, in the ordinary way, the Great Metropolitan stakes sad City and Suburban would come up for decision. There is some hope. too. for Alexandra Park on May 0. but at whatever other CearSBS besides Newniiikl flat racing will be allowed while the war continues. Here can bi reasonable objection to Hie sport being carried OB, as at present, at Gatwiek. Ling ■eld ami Windsor."
