NEW ORLEANS NEW BOARD OF APPEALS. New Orleans. La.. February 5.— When Captain Jaaaea II. Beet arrives here from Memphis, Tenn.. the Committee of Appeals, of the Business Mens Racing Association. of which lie is the chairmuu. will meet and au organization be perfected. The nittee of Appeals is a body created at the suggestion of Judge Murphy, to review his acts as the chief official and any persons, against whom he may have issued a ruling, have the privilege of taking their cases before this body. It is expected that F. Staton. owner of Stout Heart, who was placed under the ban recently because of the sudden improvement of that horse, and jockey N. Burger, who drew a permanent suspension on ac-. . ii ut of the s:, in,. l|lir~e. will take their cases he-fan the committee, an 1 that they will be the first apneals heard by that organization. It is also probable that Grovor and Hundley Baker. Al Koenigsberg and others, who last year incurred the displeasure of Judge Murphy, will also take advantage of the chance to have their cases heard by the reviewing body. Although u.any horses which came here as cheap selling platen have established reputations for eon-sisiencv for themselve- aud have shown vast im-loo.ement over their running last year. none, with the exception of Dick Williams, have done as well as BerffMJano. Beginning the meeting with a victory in a selling race with a lot of ordinary platers of which he uas the must despised, this horse ran better with each race, and finally found himself in a handicap with some of the beat horses at the track. Then it was that hi- demonstrated that his wort was not of the Huke variety, for he ran such a horse .is Fagle to ;t half length finish and was tmlj bnaten in the last twenty yards. This horse raced at fair mcelings in small towns in Louisiana nil last summer, but next summer will tind linn on i he big circuits in the north, if he does not go wrong in the meantime. Another good two year-old was shown here when Luke LeBlond sent Op|K rtunity to the post and he s.-ored at his first time out. This colt is a son of Toddington— Miss Oertel and upon the occasion of iiis first start he beat a good band, lending them all tin- Bray. This was the first ru.e of the meet-i 1 1 -_r at three and one-half furlongs and Opportunity in. reased |,is lend as he went along. He left the barrier like a flash, made the turn in easy faahioa and gave every indication of being thoroughly fcchooled. His peiToruiuuLe puts uiui iu a class with Westy Hogan. attea Girl, Savilla. Meddling Miss. Noruinbega and Bedtime Stories, which are the best two-year-olds shown here thus far. The number of locally-owned horses which have won races at the Fair Grounds has resulted in many more residents of New Orleans announcing their intention of purchasing thoroughbreds. Dr. II. Moore. L. A. Seregni and J. Long are among the local men whose horses have lieen successful iu winning two or more purses here to date.
