KARRICK STRING IN GOOD CONDITION. Horses Belonging to H. K. Knapp and Schuyler L. Parscns Ready for Training at Belmont Park. By Ed Cole. New York. March 30. YYilliani II. Karrick. one of the most skillful of the younger generation of trainers in this country, will begin the racing sea son with a string of twenty horses belonging to the Onerl Stable, presided over by II. K. Knapp. one ,.f the stewards of the Jockey Club: Schuyler L. Parsons, another of the .lei key Club stew ■IMS, and one horse the property of S. D. Riddle. Of this number the Oneck Stable lias ten and Mr. Parsons nine. Only three in the latters collection are two-year-olds, while there are six youngsters in the Oneck string. Like all other banes that have wintered on Long Island the Karrick string is nearly a month behind in their work owing to the abominable weather that has prevailed last winter and this spring. The past few days there has been a change for the better and superintendent Pelz hopes to shortly have the track in good shape for training purposes. Consequently tress now on there is every reason to believe a lot of stiff work will be dealt out to the racers on Long Island. As trainer Karrick has superb winter platters at Befanont Park it is safe to say that his string is about as forward as can be expected und r the circumstances, as his winter quarters are well sheltered from severe storms and he could therefore do some sort of work when others were at a disadvantage. This being the ease it may be presumed that the Karrick horses will go to the training track the first time thoroughly ready for hard work and will no doubt be fit for the peat before tliose of some of bis associates who have spent the winter at Belmont Park. In the older division Mr. Karrick has a useful band of banes in Yankee Notions. Phosphor. Sharpshooter. Hanson and Distant Shore. His three-year-olds are not so promising, taking their two-year-old form as a line, though they may improve with age. as many youngsters do. Rut if they only live up to their last years records they are not a formidable collection. They include Wenonah. Water Belle, Shooting Star. Flute and High Chair. Of these Wenonah is the only winner and she evidently went amiss early, as she did not start on the local tracks after May. Shooting Star and Water Belle were not introduced during the New York season, hence it is presumed they met with some trouble and were reserved for later nchieveim nts. High Chair and Flute were both tried in races, but never showed anything that would indicate they were other than ordinary. Consequently if there is three in the it is a good -year -old Karrick string not within sight at the present writing. Among the two-year-olds lie has some well bred youngsters. The unnamed colt by YYaterboy — Kia-mesha has anticedents of note. Kiamesha being a fast mare that carried the colors of Mr. Knapp with distinction. Artemis, by Star Shoot — Oneck Queen, is a filly with high recommenda t ions as to breed-tan;. Among the youngsters in the Parsons string are Friendless by Superman Luckless anil the black filly Koh-i-Noor. by Dr. bene— Priceless Jewel. But as Mr. Karrick says, one knows little or can tell little about tWO-y«ar-Olds until they have been well tried out. Consequently nothing ran be said of their prospects. It is hardly probable any of the Karrick string will be sent to the post before the opening of the New York season. Following is the list of the horses in the string: Oneck Stable — YV. H.
