PLEASING PIMLICO RACING KEWESSA FIRST IN THE 0BI0LE HANDICAP IN A CLOSE FINISH. Bedland Wins and Gains a New Owner — Battery Takes the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase-Yellow Sally First but Disqualified. Baltimore, Md.. May fi. — The Oriole Handicap, which was offered as the feature race at the Iim-lico course this afternoon, was won by W. L. Olivers good racer Kewessa from a smart band of staying racers. Jockey J. McTaggart rushed Kewessa to the front when the barrier was released, took a safe lead and the son of McGee and Sanfara held on gamely at the finish to win from Corsican, with Greenwood a good third. Racing conditions were ideal and the largest crowd of the meeting journeyed to the course to witness the sport. In addition to the Oriole Handicap, several sidling handicaps were down for decision and resulted in upsets for the t ilent. W. A. Burttsehell sent two winners to the post during the afternoon in Kedlanit and Counterpart. The former was bid up and sold to G. A. Alexandra on the hitters bid of ,000. which was an advance of $." 00 over his entered price. The Green Spring Yalley Steeplechase, a dash of two miles, was also decided and resulted in a victory for H. Kites Battery. The latter showed himself a good fencer and won in a spirited drive with Shannon River. The running of the opening dash furnished several thrills for the spectators and resulted in the disqualification of Yellow Sally, which finished first. The lis qualification was brought about by the filly bumping Golden Bantam through the final sixteenth. apt. E. B. Cassatt was an arrival this afternoon, coming over from his Pennsylvania estate. J. I. Strode arrived this morning from St. Lsejts. The Decision came out of her race yesterday in a bad way. She was severely jumped on and will bo away from the races for some time. James Fitzsimmons will send Maifou. Glendale, Mamie K. and Gaelic to the sales ring at this meeting. A. G. Cassatt from the farm in Pennsylvania to Belmont Park tomorrow night. Trainer T. J. Healoy showed some of the R. T. Wilson two-year-olds in the paddock before the races and they attracted considerable attention.
