KATHLEEN AGAIN A WINNER KENTUCKY OAKS HEROINE FIRST IN THE PENDENNIS CLUB HANDICAP. The Grader Accounts For Donerail in the Shelhyville Handicap — Favorites Fail Their Adherents at Douglas Park. Louisville, Ky.. June ."i. — Threatening weather. with un occasional shower during the afternoon, cut an inroad into the attendance and patronage at Douglas Park this afternoon. The sport was in- ten-sting and the finishes in most instances were of tin- driving variety. Hackers of favorites again suffered extensively, for a majority were laken into camp. The winners, however, received strong support and M sens.! t iona 1 prices were had against them. The Iendennis Clul Handicap at three-quarters, and the Shellnville Handicap at one mile and an eighth, of 00 each, were the outstanding features. The former resulted in I victory for this years Kentucky Oaks winner. Kathleen, owned by George J. Long. She showed a fine performance in leading for the entire way. but the race lost some of its value considering that Shilling. Gentry and Hunt, respective riders on J rover Hughes, Hawthorn and Converse, took their mounts back soon after the start and this enabled Kathleen to go into a long lead unopposed. Amazon suffered from interference soon after the start, but finished in game fashion, barely failing to get up. Converse headed the others. The followers of favorites began promisingly when Sweet Helen won in easy style over Innocent Inez and The Iluke. 1erseus was caught in a jam at the start of this race and forced back, but for which he would have been dangerous. Ouin also would have been closer up but for attempting to swerve in, which caused his rider to take him up to prevent an accident. J. T. Looneys The Grader again ran a capital race, when he succeeded in wearing Donerail down after a sharp drive to win the Shelhyville Handicap. Klebume again figured prominently by landing third. Hanovia was an intended good thing in this race and was supported with rare confidence but, though running a good race, she could not overcome the interference she suffered from. Judge Young emerged from the maiden class by a lucky win over Aunt Liz and Satin in the third race. Judge Young was benefitted by a forward start and good ride, whereas Murphy got Aunt Lir into trouble during the first three-eighths and had to subject her to a hard drive in an effort to overhaul the winner. Lady June Grey was the surprise of the second race, she winning in a well-sustained drive with Nobleman. Skiles Knob, the favorite, quit badly in the stretch. T. C. McDowell has bought C. H. Berrymans interest in Paramount, by Dallot — Majolica, and Precious, by Ballot — Graziosa. He also purchased Mr. Berrymans interest in Sister Susie. Several of the owners here are arranging to ship at the close of racing to Hamilton and await the opening there. The advance guard of horses for Latonia will begin leaing next Thursday and it is expected that at least 900 will be at the Milldale truck for the opening. Koyal II., Jefferson Livingstons English-bred racer, came out of the Kentucky Handicap in a bad way as the result of a kick received from Old Koenig "while at the post. The injury was on the bony part of the right hind leg under the hock. By a coincidence Old Koenig put out of commission Colonel Venuie. another Livingston -owned star. The hitters injury was similar to that of Royal II. and occurred while the horses were at the Mi Roamer.
