DORYAL MEETING COMES TO A CLOSE. Montreal, Que.. June 5.— The Dorval Jockey Clubs meeting was brought to a close with the running of todays program. The races were run under a drizzling rain and over a track that was deep and heavv. It was an ideal day for the mud runners, and horses that run well in heavy going were prominent in the results. The club has teen seriously handicapped by bad weather, the sun having shone on only one day during the entire meeting. Ophelia W., a frequent winner at Havana and in Maryland, accounted for the feature race, the Juvenile Handicap, to which :i purse of 00 was added. She was ridden by W. Ward, overhauled the early pacemaker. Valerie West, when entering the homestretch and. drawing away, won by a couple of lengths from Kingfisher. In the second race Mona O. lost her rider, S. Brown, when entering the homestretch. The lad escaped injury and rode Lady Spirituelle in the following race. The racing scene will shift to Blue Bonnets tomorrow, when the spring meeting of the Montreal Jockey Club begins. The track at Blue Bonnets is in" fairly good condition an:! especially on the inside, where the "dogs" have been up for the past two weeks. The drainage system at Blue Bonnets is almost i erfcct, which accounts for the track drying out so fast. A. B. Dade has an infected eye and on the advice of his physician remained at home today. Mr. Dade will be unable to attend to his duties for a couple of days. His place today was filled in a capable manner by James Milton, whose work at Havana last winter was gilt-edged. Jockey ;. Byrue was an arrival this morning. He came from New York and will remain for the remainder of the season on the Canadian circuit. Byrne will ride the horses that William Shields is training for Dr. J. S. Tyree and laul Powers. William M. Murray has received word that three carloads of horses would arrive at Maissoncuve from Baltimore this week. Among the stables coming is that of Frank Frisbie. which is made up of some useful selling platers. Willie Doyle will accompany the Frisbie stable. Martin Nathanson. who will act as racing secretary, is due Thursday and U|hiii his arrival lie will issue the conditions for the first two days of racing. Sam Louis arrived this morning from New York. Ixniis :ias disposed of all but one or two of his horses and contemplates gathering together a fresh string. There will I o a meeting of the committee of the Canadian Racing Associations in the clubhouse at Blue Bonnets on Wednesday. Jockey Charlie Peak eonteniplatos riding on the big circuit for the remainder of the year and he will put in an application for a license on Wednesday. It may Ik- that Peak will make a connection ■with one of the large stables racing up here next summer. Peak rode for R. F. Carman a couple of years ago. Mortimer Mahoney reports everything in readiness in the uiutuel buildings at Blue Bonnets. At the conclusion of the Blue Bonnets meeting he will go to Ottawa. The Buffalo and Montreal baseball teams were guests of starter James Milton at Dorval this afternoon". W. Short has purchased from Steve Judge the mare Ada Anne and turned her over to his son P. L. Short, who is gathering together a stable to race on the half-mile tracks. Young Short also has Parlor Boy in his stable.
