GOOD RACING IN SPAIN AND ITALY. Mr. X. Jacobs, who is at St. Sabastian. together with his partner, Mr. B. Fry, has kindlv cabled me the result, of last Sundays Grand Prix 1 1-2 miles, the most valuable race ever run for iu Spain, for it was worth roughly 4.000 sovereigns, or which 2,800 sovereigns goes to the winner, 1500 sovereigns to the second, -100 sovereigns to the turd, and 200 sovereigns to the fourth. From tin- cable I learn that Mr. J. D. Cohns stable run first and second with Teddy and Spirt. Mr. U. K. Vanderbilts Meigs finishing third. According to the last issue of "Le Sport Beige," Mr Vanderbilts stable was favorite in the ante-post wagering in St. Sebastian at about 3 to 1. with Mr. Culms stable second choice at 5 to 1. but as the message announcing the success of Teddy does not mention the prices at the start it wiil be necessary to wait for further news. Spirt was expected to be the mount of G. Stern. Teddy is a bay three-year-old colt by Ajax out of Rondeau, by Bay Ronald out of Doremi. He was bred at the .lardy stud by M. Edmund Blanc and was purchased last October at the sale of that well known sportsmans horses iu training. All that Mr. Colin gave for him was 5,100 francs, and the colt has got back the purchase money considerably more than ten times over at the first time of asking. Spirt, which was specially nominated at a cost of SO sovereigns at the second entry, is a five-year-old horse by Arizona winner of the Alexandra Plate out of Surface and Meigs, which occupied the third place, is by the American-bred sire Peter Pan out of Meggs Hill. Teddy is bred to stay 011 both sides of his pedigree, for his sire, Ajax by Flying Fox, won the Grand Prix de Paris of his year, and his dam. Rondeau, which was bred by Sir John Robinson, was a good winner. As a four-year-old it will be remembered that Rondeau, with Danny Maher up, carried Sir James Millers colors into second place for the Cesarewitch won by Wargrave, to which she was trying to concede fourteen pounds. From La Chroniquc du Turf 1 note that Sir Rlioland about a fortnight since won the valuable Prix Ambrosiauo at Milan. 2,000 sovereigns about one mile and a quarter with Kibwesi, which was ridden by A. Manchester and defeated eight others. Kibwesi is yet another big Continental winner got by that stallion Galeazzo which in France sired that brilliant performer Eryx, Brilliantine, and many other winners, while last year Ids daughter Galliflora won the Italian Oaks. Another English jockey, J. Davis, won the Prix Parma at Milan on the Besnate Studs Dioniede, in a big field, and on the same afternoon Sir Rlioland won two other races by aid of Golis another son of Galeazzo and Frera one of the get of Lally. M. Camilla Blanc at a more recent meeting at Milan secured a handicap with Chiendeut. M. Blanc lias only three or four horses in Italy, and has 1 ulready won several good races with them. Kibewesi lidded to his Ambrosiuno laurels by taking the Prix du St. Gothard. From all this it will be een that racing iu Milan, and also at other Italian meetings, is going 011 well. English and Anglo- ; Ireiich jockeys almost monopolize the riding, among the English jockeys being D. Blackburn, J. Davis, F. Thompson. A. Woodland, A. Manchester, etc., while lout. J. B. Wat kins, G. Sauval and others represent France. "Vigilant " in London Sportsman of July 4.
