CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The correct time of race 28333 was 4:19, instead of 4:17, as published. Jockey J. Howard has been released by George J. Day and will ride as a free lance on the minor circuit in eastern Canada. It is reported that jockey Eddie Taplin lias severed, his connection with the Brighton Stable, tf which George M. Odoin is trainer. Jockey John Bullman. with Mrs. Bnllinan, are among the recent arrivals at Saratoga. Bullman is fit and expects to ride during the meeting. He has a boy who is about old enough to begin riding. There will be no mutuels at Mount Royal for the fall meeting. This lias been .definitely announced by the management, but it is. intimated that the machines will undoubtedly be ready for next season. J. 0. Milam has purchased from B. Chapman the eight-year-old chestnut mare Stick Pin by McOee Scarf Pin, by Springbok. Stick. Pin is the winner of a number of good races. Milam will retire her. R. II. Anderson, Teas Over Stud, has listed his entire crop of yearlings for sale at Lexington, Ky., September 12. Xo Stallion has shown better than Dick Finnell this -year and these foals by him are said to be a fine band individually. Jockey L. Wilson, who rode Web Carter to victory in the steeplechase at Saratoga the past week, was at one time a crack lightweight rider on the Pacific coast. At that time he was under contract to Sam Hildreth and rode many winners for that horseman. Meteorite, one of the colts beaten in the first race at Saratoga. Thursday, cost his owner, John San-ford, 2,500 as a yearling. He is by Star Shoot, out of Hamburg Belle, a. Futurity winner. He ran green and will probably show to better advantage later. Lee Smitha has five fine foals of 1910 at his farm near Lexington, Ky., four being by Olambala. The Olambala foals are out of Lizzie Oilman dam of Dr. liarkley, etc., Foneda, Artful Art and Miss Kingston. The other foal is by Bearcatcher out of Handy Lizzie. Artful Art, Miss Kingston and Handy Lizzie were bred this year to Danger Rock. Lizzie Gilmaii was mated with Jack Atkin and Foneda with Marta Santa. Over his own signature Mr. Thomas Carey lias announced that there will lie no more racing at Hawthorne this year. Mr. Carey owns Hawthorne. It therefore follows that his statement is conclusive. Under all the local circumstances his action was sagacious and commendable. Xo doubt there will be good racing at Hawthorne noxt year, but better managed than it was recently. Allowance can be made for conditions at a place where there has been no racing for twelve years, but then? is no possible excuse for permitting rnled-ofl" notorieties to enjoy the privileges- of a race track.
