The Tiiverview Handicap, todays feature race at Comiaught Vark. enabled Top o th Morning to score a victory over a band of the best sprinters racing in Canada. Top o th Morning carried 128 pounds, came from behind with a rush to win, going away from Bobert Bradley which just did beat The Masquera-der for the small end of the purse. The race was a fast one from the start with Bobert Bradley and The Masquorader running in close company far in advance of the others. They both tired in the stretch racing. The time, 1:13 represented a new track record for three-quarters. Btick Bay which lias been running in sprint races all the year, was a starter in a mile dash this afternoon and it enabled him to score his first victory of the year when he beat Lazuli by a half length. Back Bay was, ridden by F. Robinson who nursed him along ill the early running. When entering the homestretch he drew away into a long lead but nt the end he was tiring. Harry Bites claimed Silk Bustle, winner of the opening race, from J. K. Seagram. Charles Lansdale, who acted as one of the stewards at the Havana track last winter, was an arrival. He will remain here for the rest of the meeting. Mr. Iansdale predicts a great meeting, at Oriental Vark next winter. Many of the eastern owners have already asked for stabling at the Cuban course and every indication points to a most successful reunion. Jockeys W. Warrington and S. Brown were suspended for the rest of the meeting by the stewards for rough riding in the first race on Saturday. The steeplechase mare Lady Butterfly, which Avon a race on the flat on Saturday, was claimed after her victory by W. Stormont. Several horses have developed fever since their arrival here. Kewessa was coughing this morning and was excused from starting by the judges, as was Prohibition. The latter worked in good fashion this morning, but later on in the day fever developed and he was scratched. Jack Winston pulled up lame this morning and it is doubtful if he will be a starter again this year. Jockey B. Watts lias severed his connection with .T. T. Smith and will in the future ride for J. II. Strode. Lieut, and Mrs. J. K. L. Ross were visitors at Comiaught Vark. They arrived from Montreal and will remain for the rest of the meeting. T. Hughes arrived at Blue Bonnets several days ago with six horses, the property of Mr. Franklin of Mcl.eod, of Alberta. Three are by Ostler Joe, one by Dick McBride and one by Instructor. They are out of the English-bred mares Barberie and Rose Stilton. One is a five-year-old named Fiddler, that won a nice as a two-year-old, another Is a three-year-old mare named Kirockity, another a three-year-old gelding named Farewell, one a tiiree-s year-old filly named Detriment and the other a two-year-old colt called Chochio The latter won a race tit Calgary last spring. Four of the band are maidens. Mr. Franklin has a large ranch at McLeod and is anxious to see whether he can raise thorough- hreds in that country. There is splendid grass and good water on the place and the substrata of the soil is limestone.
