ALL IN READINESS AT LEXINGTON. Lexington, Ky.. September .". Kentuckys fall racing season will be ushered in tomorrow when the Kentucky Association begins its meeting of ten days. Indications are that the sport will receive the best patronage in many years. The increased purses are responsible for a host of newcomers to augment the old guard and this means that soni of the best racers in the country will meet, in contest over the Kentucky tracks. For an opening day offering Secretary W. II. Shelley has provided an attractive card, witlr four of the seven racei at one mile or over. Small fields in most, of the races will contribute materially in providing good sport, as it will minimize interference and insure truly run races. The Phoenix Hotel Handicap at one mile and an eighth, will introduce to local racegoers the Irish-bred racer Killanna, which E. It. Mradley acquired at Saratoga. Track Superintendent James P. Moss has the course in excellent order and fast time should be the rule for the opening day. While there will not be so many horses at the track as last spring, those here are in thorough racing condition. At present stall assignments have been made for 403 horses. There is an abundance of riders at the track. More than twenty-five jockeys have been registered with the secretary. The additions to the betting pavilion have brought about a big improvement in that section and there is little likelihood that the congestion of former periods will again be noticed. There will be seventeen mutuel machines in operation, eighteen cashiers and seventeen ticket sellers and clickers. Todays newcomers from Louisville included five racers owned by C. C. Van Meter, three of S. M. Hendersons, two youngsters that AV. F. Schulte will race and five owned by J. W. Schorr. The visiting delegation from Louisville for the opening day will be an extensive one and includes manv prominent persons. The extensive band of racers owned bv Williams Mros. which have been on the ailing list since their arrival from Chicago, are rapidly rounding into condition and several will be starters at this meeting. Harry Welles, an exercise lad who fell yesterday while schooling u two-year-old, died last night as a result of his injuries. The close of the Kenilworth Park meeting at Windsor Saturday, will bring here a big consignment of racers and several additions to the iockevs.
