CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Th stables of James Fitzsimmons. G. H. Browne and O. C. Masch are quartered at Gravesend. Longfellow had his flank torn upon the occasion of his last start and is temporarily out of training. J. O. Keene will leave America for Russia in about ten days, going via San Francisco and Aladi-vostock. Twelve horses from John San fords stable have arrived at. Melmont Park and will be sold Thursday by tlie Powers-Hunter Company. John Miller has arrived at Melmont Park from Kentuekv witli a carload of yearlings for Frederick Johnson, Thomas Hitchcock and otiier owners. The failure of the AVhitney three-year-olds to show anything like their good form as two-year-olds has been one of the inexplainable features of the present racing season. K. T. Wilsons champion juvenile, Campfire, is descrilied as a colt of quiet disposition and not especially prepossessing in appearance. "Handsome is as handsome does," however. George Dillon, who served as secretary of the course at the Oriental Park meeting at Havana last winter, is reported dangerously ill at St. Elizabeths hospital, Covington, Ky. J. O. Keene has arrived at New York with eight yearlings by P.allot, Trap Rock, Peter Quince, Ogden, Jack Atkin, Star Shoot and AVatervalo. They will bo sold by the Powers-Hunter Company at Durlands. James Mutters good two-year-old colt. Ivory Mlaek, by Star Shoot Ivory Mells, will not raco again this season. According to trainer Jack McCormack there is nothing wrong with him, but his trainer is of the opinion he has done enough racing for his first season. Trainer C. AV. Carroll of the A. M. Spreckels stable, who recently readied New York with a consignment of Napa Stock Farm yearlings, which were cold at auction at Melmont Park yesterday, also brought the good three-year-old Sangallo east and will race him on the Maryland circuit in the fall. Should the French government not place any difficulties iu the way, it is probable that Comic de la Cimera will purchase the thirteen horses belonging to Mr. AA. K. Aanderbilt now at San Sebastian. The exportation of these and all other French horses taking part, in the Spanish meeting was only permitted on the understanding that the" were to return to their training quarters after the termination of the fixture. Trainer William Karriek announces that The. Knocker spread a foot during the running of the Hopeful Stakes and this accounted for his nonappearance in the Futurity. This colt is suffering from what is known as a blind quarter crack and wiM be turned out for the balance of the season. He was rated as the best juvenile iu the Oneck Stable string. Karriek has retired Phosphor for the year and will go to Maryland with part of the big stable he is training.
