GEORGE J. LONGS COMING TWO-YEAR-OLDS. Louisville, Ky., Oct. 3. Already several of the stables that have been racing here this fall have shipped to Latonin, but, of course, the big hegira from here will not take place until next Thursday night and Friday morning, when racing will end here for the season. It seems that close to 1,000 horses will be housed at the Latonia track next Saturday, when the nineteen days meeting will begin there. Manager John Hachmeister is at Latonia, attending to the various details incident to the opening. "What is considered by George .T. Long as the finest band of weanlings he lias yet raised in the long history of Bashford Stud Farm, are now roaming the fields at that Jefferson County breeding stud. These youngsters will constitute the two-year-old members of his racing stable in 191S, and the most successful of them will become his Derby and Oaks candidates, when they are three-year-olds. There are thirteen colts and eight fillies in the collection out of mares of good breeding. Both Mr. Long and his superintendent, Dr. Black, regard these by Free Lance as the pick of the big collection. The list in full of these youngsters is given below: Colts. The broodmare division at Bashford Manor Stud now embraces thirty-six mares, -with a few exceptions fairly young. The stud matrons have been mated this season chiefly to Free Lance, Alvescot and Sain. That crack two-year-old of 1914, Ralph, will have a chance to distinguish himself as a sire, beginning next spring. G. V. Shipp, the Woodford County turfman, who has been attending the races here for several days, reports that he lias only three yearlings this season, all fillies, he having sold his only yearling colt, a chestnut by Astronomer Mary Goodwood dam of Duval, to the New York turfman. David Gideon. The fillies Mr. Shipp now has are all by Astronomer. One is ont of the dam of Amulet, another is out of Lily Paxton, and the other is out of Mirka, by Peter Quince. He mated his mares this season with Danger Rock, Froglegs and Astronomer. "Bonnie" Colo, at one time" a race rider for K. Spence. is back with that turfman again, having arrived in Louisville a few days a go. He has been absent from the track for several years, having lK?en in Mexico, and recently lias been employed there in driving a motor truck in connection with the United States army division which is now over the border there. Cole still likes to exercise horses and probably will remain with the Spence stable indefinitely. A. Li. Rogers, who has a string of horses at Churchill Downs, has bought from the Missouri turfman, Ben A. Jones, the yearling bay colt by Blues Errant Lady, by Knight Errant, and the youngster has been shipped here to join the Rogers string. Thomas Murphy, of Waldeck Farm, has bought from F. J. Keiley the three-year-old filly Lady of Lynn as an addition to ids broodmares at Waldeck Stud. Lady of Lynn is a good type for a broodmare and is by Voter, out of the richly-bred Lydia II. She will be mated next spring to Golden Maxim.
