FAVORITES DAY AT DEVONSHIRE PARK. Most of the Well-Backed Horses Reward Their Adherents Excellent Attendance and Racing. Windsor, Ont., October 5. With favorites running u little better to form than on the previous days and a big crowd on hand, the racing today at Devonshire Park was of the most interesting character. Except for the first race, when Francis J. Pons two-year-old Bon Otis failed to run to a place, the public had a fairly good day. In this race Bon Otis, the heavily backed odds-on choice, bowed a tendon, "which accounted for her poor showing. The talent got to going well when Recluse and Raoul, both well-backed, won in easy style. G. Knebelkamp has secured the good colt Arcli Plotter and the filly Lucile P. from E. T. Colton and F. J. Pons respectively. These horses are now racing well and both gained brackets at this meeting, so Mr. Knebelkamp is likely to have two good campaigners. After winning the third race in easy style Recluse, which was. owned by W. L. Oliver, was claimed by W. Birnie for 00. Recluse lias been racing- consistently of late. The meeting here to date has been a successful one. Speculation in the mutuels has been heavy and, with continued good weather for the next two days; a record-breaking crowd should be seen at the "course on Saturday, when the meeting will come to a close. The second meeting will open October 2S. There was a demonstration in front of the stand when the horses were sent away to a straggling start in the fifth race. When the start was made, two of the horses wheeled, which made the start ; a bad one. With this exception, the fields were sent away in good style. Luther was placed on the schooling list for fractious behavior at the barrier in the fifth race, which was. responsible for the straggling start.
