BASILIUS began slowly and had to come around the others, then moved up rapidly in the last quarter, but had to be bard ridden from near the end to outstay PIERCE W. The latter showed the most early speed and held on well in the stretch drive. IRON MASTER tired after racing well for three-quarters. HESTER SMITH was outrun all the way. ROSCOE GOOSE set a fast pace from the start and took a long lead on the lower turn, but tired and, under hard riding, just lasted long enough to win. UNCLE HART, probably best, was under hard restraint for the first half tnd finished with great speed when called on. HAW THORN tired after racing well to ths last eighth. The latter set a fast pace and tired slightly near the end. DR. TUCK was sharply cut off on the lower turn and held on well in the final drive. NETTIE WALCUTT tired. SPRING AVHEAT ran a dull race.
