Baltimore, Md., October 14. An immense crowd t turned out at Laurel this afternoon to witness the racing. Secretary McLennan furnished another -high-class program, witii the Blue Point Stakes and the Washington Handicap as the particular attractions. The former was a three-quarter dash -for two-year-olds and the handicap was for three- year-olds and over at one mile and an eighth. Boots, running in the name and interests of A. Macomber, won at the first time of asking : for his new owner. He carried 122 pounds and -after racing under stout restraint for three-quar- i ters, raced into an easy lead and won with ease . by a length and a half from Spur. The pace in : the early running was slow, but the last half : mile was fast. The winner ran the mile and an eighth in 1:51. It. T. Wilsons Killdee proved best of the dozen starters that went to the post for the Blue Point Stakes. He came from behind the leaders in the homestretch and at the finish was going away from Gloomy Gus. The latter made most of the pace, hut tired right at the end. The conditions of the Ulue Point called for selling allowances, and when the winner was offered, J. W. Hedrick was on hand and advanced him from 00 to ,003, at which figure he was bought in. Samuel Ross of Washington, acted for Mr. Macomber in the purchase of Boots. The deal was consummated about one oclock today and the price paid is said to have been 5,000. Boots will be shipped to Latonia next week to fulfill his engagements there. The finish in the steeplechase was particularly close. It was so tight that the backers of Early Light though that horse had wou. The official placing, however, gave the race to New Haven. The latter came again in the last few strides ami just managed to poke his nose in front. Glory Belle was claimed by I. M. Hedrick for ,200. James Robertson has arranged to leave for New Orleans on Tuesday next. He will ship the two-vear-old fillv Valerie West to New Orleans probably on Mondav. Valerie West was cut down during the meeting at Havre de Grace and will not be in condition to race again until next spring. Henrv McDaniel left for Binghampton tonight to look over the horses that Willis Sliarpe Kilmer has at his farm. He will return on Monday. It developes that William Garth purchased the vearling by Star Shoot Lady Schorr from John E. Madden while lie was in Kentucky. J. T. Gwathmey came up from Virginia to enjoy a days racing. His colors were carried in the steeplechase this afternoon by Reliance. Joseph E. Davis bar. arranged to have the remains of steeplechase jockey Murphy interred in the Westchester cemetery. Jockey A. Lee, who fell in the same race, arrived at Laurel this morning looking none the worse for his mishap. O. J I. Douglas came from Pimlico tills morning with a couple of jumpers, Aleppo and Reliance. James Johnston purchased of William II. Karrick this morning the two-year-old Spectre.
