REMARKABLE BELMONT PARK ENTRIES. New York, November 16. Entries for the Belmont Park stakes of 1917, which closed yesterday, have increased so decidedly over last year that a comparative table best shows the magnitude of the increase. All nominations are not in yet, owing to late mails, but sufficient have been received to show the wonderful increase in the popularity of racing in this country. Following is n list of entries for the various fixtures as compared witli last year: Stakes. 1910. 1917. Metropolitan Handicap 57 OS Ladies Stakes 30 -16 Toboggan Handicap 53 75 Harlem Selling Stakes 32 48 Amateur Cup 19 16 Hollis Selling Stakes 35 45 Suburban Handicap 53 66 Juvenile Stakes 82 110 Keene Memorial Stakes 86 103 Fashion Stakes 64 90 Bouquet Stakes 58 63 Totals 569 730 The Belmont for 1918 received 110 entries against 94 for 1917 and 95 in 1916. For the Withers of 191S there are 135 entries as compared with 110 for 1917. Last year there were but 93 entries. The Lawrence Realization last year closed with 34 entries while for next years racing tliere are 73. For 1918 there are 120 yearlings already entered and for the 1919 running there have been 217 foals already nominated. Tills equals the record for this stake in 1SS9. This event will be re-opened for yearlings on November 15, 1917. Joseph E. Widener has engaged the services of jockey Frank Keogh for next year. Al Burton will leave for Juarez on Monday via New Orleans. He will assist in the secretarys office.
